Connecting a domain registered with us to a website hosted by SquareSpace is a multi-step process requiring actions to be completed both on SquareSpace's website / portal as well as our portal.
Part A - Start the connection in Squarespace. The following directions are taken from SquareSpace support and are current as of the date this KB article was written. If you notice any discrepancies with this process, please let us know and we will do our best to update the procedure as it may change.
- Enter the domains panel on SquareSpace. This should be available here. Open the Domains panel. Or, if there's a ☰ in the top-left corner, open that menu and click Domains.
- Click Use a Domain I Own.
- Enter the full domain name you’re connecting in the Enter Domain field, then click the arrow.
- Click Connect Domain. If you see a message that says "This domain is already connected to another Squarespace site," check your other Squarespace sites to find where the domain is connected. Then disconnect it from that site.
- From the domain provider drop-down menu, select "Other".
- Click Connect Domain. In the message that appears, click Continue.
- After you click connect, the DNS Settings panel will appear. This panel shows the records you need to enter in your DNS account with us to connect your domain to your Squarespace site. Keep this panel open for your reference. Domain records shown in red are the DNS records that SquareSpace is not currently detecting as being configured properly. Records shown are green are configured properly and no action/changes are needed for those DNS records.
Once you have the list of DNS records that are needed to connect your domain name to your squarespace account, you also have the option to submit a support ticket to us and request that the changes be made on your account.
To minimize downtime for your website as DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to fully propagate, we recommend making these changes outside of business hours to minimize the impact to yuor business.
